Local Councils understanding, supporting and working with local charities - delivered by Robert Horn, Senior Project Officer, Groundwork
This online course will look at what a charity is, how it is accountable to the public, how it is funded and what trustee liability and responsibilities are. This will be compared with the framework of local government so we can look at the similarities where they exists but also the fundamental differences between the two types of organisation. We will also cover what a council’s role when acting as Custodian Trustee, or where the council owns the freehold.
This is an excellent course to gain a better understanding
of how charities work and how local government can work with and support them,
and how they can in turn support the council. This is a live and interactive
session with plenty of chances to ask questions.

Local councils acting as Sole Trustees of a charity - delivered by Robert Horn, Senior Project Officer, Groundwork
This course will be held online. Becoming a Sole Trustee of a charity is completely different to being a custodian. This is one way that a council can help a struggling charity. We will look at the different types of charity, what taking on sole trusteeship entails, long term solutions, understanding the complex roles and liabilities of being a statutory body but also managing a charity and most importantly as well as best practices and tips .
We will also look at the question of whether councillors are automatically trustees. This is a live and interactive session with plenty of chances to ask questions.
